Recommended Whiskey Accessories

Here at Thrifty Whiskey, we want you to get the best whiskey experience possible without breaking the bank. Some accessories can help enhance your experience, or help you experience the whiskey the way YOU want to experience it. Below is a list of accessories we recommend to help you on your whiskey journey.

This is one of the easiest ways to elevate your drinking experience is to use the right glassware for the job.

The Glencairn glass was first invented in 2001 and rapidly became the go-to glass for drinking whiskey and other spirits for those invested in the industry. The tulip shape of the glass gives it superior nosing properties and focuses your sips to get the full force of the whiskey inside.

As such, we recommend to any new whiskey drinker to purchase at least one of these glasses.

This is one of my favorite books on whiskey. It takes you through the origins of the different types of whiskey, their definitions, and recommended flights for those categories. It even puts those flights into price categories so you can find the flight that fits your budget.

When starting out a lot of people put ice in their whiskey to cool it down and dilute it somewhat. Even advanced whiskey drinkers will occasionally put their whiskey on ice.

One of the problems of using standard ice is that it melts more quickly and over dilutes the spirit. This is because of the bubbles that get trapped inside of it.

The best ice for the job is clear ice. It melts slower and thus will chill the whiskey with less dilution. To this point, a spherical ice maker is ideal.

And before you ask, we do not recommending whiskey stones as we have never found them to be effective in chilling our whiskey.
